Whitianga

Welcome to Whitianga, located on Eastern side, and often referred to “The heart of the Coromandel Peninsula” where you can leave the stresses of life behind you. With ocean blue waters, long walks and golden beaches, it is the perfect destination for any traveller.

As with the entire Mercury Bay area, Whitianga is a place where you can do as much or as little as you like, whether you want to explore the township, visit the Northern beaches, soak in the natural hot water at Hot Water Beach or jump on a tour boat and explore over 25kms of volcanic coastline.

The Coromandel Peninsula is known for some of the most picturesque views and home to some outstanding scenery. The Te Whanganui-A-Hei Marine Reserve is one of the easiest accessed Marine Reserves in N Z; and of course, its flagship attraction that is Cathedral Cove. A popular destination no matter the time of year, with its golden sandy beach, crystal blue waters and beautiful arch making the perfect backdrop for a new profile picture.

As you make your way down to Cathedral Cove, branch off to Gemstone Bay. This popular bay is a snorkeler’s paradise with its marked trail, making it easy for all swimmers.

If a more leisurely break is what you need wander the town, visit the many cafés and bars, exercise some retail therapy, visit to The Lost Spring Thermal Pools & Spa or take in a movie at the Mercury Bay Twin Cinemas.

If you walk, run, bike, drive or paddle Whitianga has something for you.
